Life in Tuscaloosa and Why We are Moving Back Home

Life in Tuscaloosa, a dream of mine is finally coming to fruition.

The Hudson family is moving back home after 7 years of living in Southern California! That is definitely a sentence that I did not expect to say, but we are excited about this next family adventure and returning to our hometown.

We have met so many special people, visited some amazing places, ate lots of amazing dishes in California but this chapter of our story is coming to an end. Soon, we plan to pack up everything, drive across the country and document the journey along the way.

Yes, thee Hudsons are buying a home in Tuscaloosa without ever stepping foot in it, and I know that some of our family and friends think we have lost our minds. Trust me when I say that this a decision we have not taken lightly. My husband and I have been talking about this for years, and finally thought it was time to take the plunge.

Since I know that we are going to get so many questions about whey we left, and why we’re heading back to Tuscaloosa, I thought I was share that here and give you a sneak peek at what is to come next.

Why are you leaving California?

The biggest reason is that we miss our people so much. Both sides of our family is mostly in the Tuscaloosa area, and we miss that village of people just to be around day-to-day. California living is also incredibly expensive. While we have been blessed enough to do it for 7 years, we also want to be smart with our finances and save for the future. We also love being able to help others, and having more resources and a lower cost of living can be tremendously helpful

Are you Buying a House in Tuscaloosa?

We are buying a home in Tuscaloosa, and this is where it gets really exciting for me. We have found our dream home thanks to an amazing real estate agent, and close on the home this week! It will be in a new neighborhood with lots of amenities that the kids will enjoy. The kids will get their own rooms, there is a pool, huge game room and plenty of storage. In fact, the home will be 3 times larger than our current home in Orange County. The best reason is that our best friends only live one street over from our new home. I can not wait to make more memories with their family.

How Will Your Stuff Get Here?

The logistics of a long-distance move is not fun to plan. We will be using a service called U-pack. U-Pack is a non-traditional self-move service. Get a FREE quote and $25 off your move using this referral link. They bring a moving container to our home, we load it (with the help of professional movers), and they will deliver it to our new home. The price is based on the linear footage used in the moving containers you need.

We will pack suitcases for the week, map our itinerary and drive 6-7 hours each day across the country and sightsee in the USA on our way home to Tuscaloosa.

What Will You Miss Most About Southern California?

There are so many things we will miss, and we probably all have different answers. I will miss being in such close proximity to the beaches. We are only 15 minutes away from Laguna Beach. Sometimes you just need to breathe that beach air. I will also miss the accessibility to outdoor trails. My husband will say that he will miss his board game friends and going to Disneyland all the time. My kids will miss their school and friends. One thing that is really cool about living here is the diversity of culture. I am grateful that they have 7 years of exposure to many different types of cultures, and languages. I hope they remember this always.
